FAIM

FAIM is a unique software system that manages ANY type of assessment process.

FAIM – the most comprehensive, reliable and cost effective exams management system available to assessment & qualifications providers worldwide.

FAIM is an integrated solution for the administration of courses, examinations and assessment, including both vocational and academic structures. Developed and enhanced over fifteen years, FAIM has been successfully installed internationally in sites as varied, complex and large as schools examination boards, vocational qualification awarding bodies and in sites processing national schools examinations.

A unique database model

The keys to the success of FAIM are the unique database design and the modular approach to software functionality.  It offers a truly ‘generic’ approach to managing any qualification and at the heart of this flexibility is the concept of three primary data groups: ‘Activities’, ‘Locations’ and ‘People’.

Activities: The courses, syllabuses, subjects, assessments, tests, membership category, etc. that form the framework for any accreditation or registration, or provision of service.

Locations: The offices that administer the subjects or courses, the schools in which they are taught, Centers where examinations or tests are taken, company offices, training facilities, accommodation, lecture halls, etc.

People: Students, Candidates, Employees, Examiners, Invigilators, Finance Officers, Teachers, etc, in fact anyone who is involved with an activity or a location.

These three groups are designed to be highly flexible and expandable without requiring restructuring of the actual database schema. They are supplemented by a comprehensive range of associated data stores developed over many years.

Roles: The link between the three groups is provided by the assignment of ‘Roles’. A ‘Role’ is what ‘Activity’ the ‘Person’ is undertaking at a ‘Location’.

Roles are the key to the flexible nature of the database. A person's role can be a ‘Student’, ‘Employee’, ‘Examiner’ etc. People can have unlimited roles. At a location, the role can be ‘School’, ‘Office’, ‘Hotel’, etc again, unlimited. It is the addition of roles to a person over a period of time that builds the ‘lifetime’ database. Using FAIM it is always possible to see what activity (course, exam, etc) a person has completed, and where (centre, at work, etc) they undertook it.

Software Components

Accessing, processing and managing the database are a series of software modules designed to handle most examinations and assessment processes.

FAIM 4 and 5i

FAIM 4 is the office-based suite of programs running under Windows providing full awarding body functionality. FAIM 5i adds ASP.NET web-based registration and testing facilities for remote access by schools, examination centers or individuals.

FAIM is a truly scalable, standards-based, enterprise solution and links to databases such as SQL Server, Oracle, Informix and other standards-based RDBMs.
